Our story began in 1992 when our founder and CEO Johan Zammit wrote his first line of code and fell in love with coding. Fast forward to 2017, where after 20 years pushing the envelope in technology and innovation, Johan felt it’s time to share his experience through a new type of organisation.
Smart Studios was born to enable its clients to use AI and digital innovation to their advantage. Since then the company experienced continuous growth and we never looked back.
In 2024, we founded Skeye as a natural extension of that journey, bringing satellite imagery, geospatial analytics, and AI powered insights together in one unified platform.

Johan is also the chair of the Malta Innovation Summit, a visiting lecturer at the University Of Malta, board member at Silicon Valletta, founder and administrator at Business Angels Malta, founder and chair of Malta Innovation Forum, startup mentor at the MITA Innovation Hub and the co-founder of NetRefer, a global leader in performance marketing software.
Johan has hands-on experience in both corporate and startup environments. Through various roles spanning over 20 years, as an entrepreneur, CTO, mentor, consultant, lecturer and software engineer, Johan spends his time seeking market gaps, envisioning software products and services that bridge these gaps and bringing them to life.
Johan’s major strong point is his superb understanding of both technology and business. He provides technology and business consultancy to major firms on how to bridge the gap between emerging technologies and business needs. For many years, he project managed the development of apps, websites, web applications, portals and online stores that enable their owners to succeed online.
Johan holds a degree in IT and an MBA in E-Business.
